My name is Shana Jewell. I’m a single mother of one. His name is Brandon Johnson. Life for me growing up was not easy. I grew up in a one bedroom apartment along with my mother and my sister. My mother was also a single mother. When I was about the age of nine my little brother was born, which we then had to move into a two bedroom house. At nine I can still remember saying to myself that “if I ever had any children that I didn’t want to struggle like my mother had to with us.” When I turned sixteen I got pregnant with my son. I continued to go to school, work, and still be a mother. I had to drop out to take care of my son. At the age of eighteen, I moved out on my own and have been on my own ever since. I enrolled in Habitat for Humanity program at the age of 23. When I had got the news that I was accepted into the program, it was the best day of my life and the beginning of a new life for me and my son. On behalf of my son and me, we would like to thank Habitat for giving me the opportunity to provide a better life for my son and a special thanks to all the sponsors that also help make dreams come true for so many families.
