My name is Shawn Paicely and I am a 29 year old single mother of two little ladies, Kimberly-Iris, 7, and Lyndsay-Rose, 3. Never in a million years did I imagine that I would be chosen for such a life changing event, owning and building my own home. It’s amazing to me to finally be in a home that no one else has lived in.
Growing up I lived with my mother and sister but we didn’t have a stable home. We lived with family members for a short time but when we finally found a place to “live,” we didn’t stay long. I don’t remember staying one place more than a couple of years at a time until I was sixteen years old.
I am so very excited to give my kids what I didn’t have as a child and that is a stable and permanent place to lay their heads. I never want my children to wonder or worry about where they will live next. This opportunity is special and sometimes I think beyond belief. To be able to have a home to call my own is very humbling. Kimberly-Iris is so excited to have her own bedroom. She wants to decorate it with a movie star/Hollywood theme. I can’t wait to be able to give her what she wants. Lyndsay-Rose doesn’t understand quite yet what’s in store for our family but hopefully one day she will appreciate everything Mommy and Habitat for Humanity has done for her. I would love to thank everyone who will be involved in my family’s home build.
